Awards & Prizes

Race Policies

  • Can I get my money back?

All entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. No exceptions except for Active Military with deployment orders. See Active Military Exemption below.

    * Active Military Exemption

Prior to race day, we will allow active military with deployment orders to defer registration to a future Connect Race event. We will not provide a refund for the difference in pricing, and registrants are also responsible for any price increases or fees.

  • What happens if the weather gets dangerous?

The event will be held despite rain, wind, sleet, or heat. However, we do retain the right to cancel, shorten, or alter the race or course due to weather, other acts of God, terrorism, or for any other reasons within or without our control. All entry fees are non-refundable and may not be deferred toward a future event.

  • Wait, the race can be delayed?

Yes. We do, in conjunction with the local municipality, reserve the right to delay the race start for any reason, including weather. We will delay up to 30 minutes prior to start if there is lightening. It is unlikely that we will delay for heat, rain, or snow.

  • Ok, so the race can be delayed. Surely it can't be canceled though, right?

If the weather gets too extreme, we may cancel the race or run it as an un-timed fun run without advance notice and as advised by the Police and Fire/EMS Departments. If this happens, prizes will be converted to random prizes. No entry fee refunds will be made. The final decision regarding the fate of the race will be made between 30 minutes to an hour prior to the scheduled start of the race and will be announced loudly for all to hear.

  • How should I behave? Have any etiquette tips?

In an effort to ensure maximum enjoyment of all participants involved, we ask that runners comply with standard race etiquette. This includes, lining up at the starting line according to expected race pace, giving right of way to faster runners along the course, and following guidelines given by race officials and volunteers.

As with any social setting, there are many subtle details included in proper etiquette. However, if you abstain from cutting sharply in front of a competitor, refrain from abruptly stopping in the middle of the course to tie your shoe, remember not to hinder others from acquiring water, and are aware of your basic social cues, you will be sure to enjoy yourself and make new friends.

  • I have a baby! Can I bring a stroller on the course?

Absolutely! Like many in the running community, we believe a fit family is a happy family and allow strollers in our races as long as the course and/or local government allows. However, we do ask that participants with strollers start in the back, refrain from weaving through packs of runners, and yield the right of way to other runners.

We also ask that you not provide a timing chip for your stroller-bound child. We include only official participants who have run the entire course in our results and awards system. Contacting the race director and letting him or her know that your child was inadvertently entered in the results can save other goal-oriented children many tears.

  • I would like to bring my dog and cat and iguana. Is that ok?

While we love pets, we ask that you only bring them along as spectators. We also ask that any spectating dogs or pets be kept on 5 foot non-retractable leashes.

  • I normally charge for headshots, so what's your photo policy?

By registering for our events, you agree to the use of your name and photograph in broadcasts, newspapers, brochures, and other media without compensation. Also, we often provide complimentary download of photos and videos taken at our events. These photos are the property of Connect Race and may not be used for non-personal use without our expressed written consent.

We expect all runners to properly display race bib, abide by all rules and instructions, and be properly trained to finish the Half Marathon or Half Marathon Relay. If you need folks to train with, we've got some great options for you!

Event Day

  • Can I please pick up my packet on race day? Please please please!

Purchase a Will Call Number Pickup for race-day pickup (6:15am–7:05am Saturday, April 1st). Will Call Number Pickup must be purchased by 12 noon on Friday, March 31st, 2017.

  • Is this race USATF Sanctioned?

You can use your time from the event as a race qualifier (for events like the New York Marathon or Peachtree) because it is a USATF certified & sanctioned course. Also, the course is a loop without a net-downhill route, meaning, the course is record eligible (American, Masters, or World record).

  • I'd like to train with folks for the race. Do you have any traning material or groups for me?

We've got a lot of options for all types of runners! Training Groups and training plans will be published to help prepare you for the event. The race is planned for participants of all abilities.

  • I'd like to walk the course. Is there a time limit for finishing?

Participants will be encouraged to travel at a pace of at least 18 minutes per mile (3 hours 55 minutes for the Half Marathon). We would love to keep the race course open all day but due to permitting we are only allowed the close the streets for a set amount of time.

  • Where should I park?

Parking is offered in multiple locations throughout downtown Athens. For best access to both the Start and Finish Line environment you may park at the Classic Center for $1 per hour up to $5 per day.

  • I've read all about the awards, so when will I get that big pile of sandwiches?

Barring uncontrollable or extenuating circumstances, our awards ceremony will begin ten minutes after the last participant finishes the last race. All awards will be given based on gun time. Chip time is only for your personal enjoyment and record keeping.

  • Is the course you have posted final?

That's the plan, but we may alter the published courses at any time and for any reason, including, but not limited to, road conditions, runner safety, local municipality requirements, and loose cows.

  • What happens when, you know, nature calls? Will there be bathrooms?

There will be indoor restrooms available at The Classic Center for the start & finish of the race, and port-a-potties will be available along the course for when nature sneaks up on you.

  • I own a car and would like to use it on race-day. Which roads will be closed when?

We've put together a minute-by-minute listing of road closures to help you plan your event-day car driving.

  • Will there be start waves?

Nope, we do not have official start waves. We will have signs encouraging runners to line up based on anticipated finish times and paces. We encourage all runners who anticipate a finish less than 1:30 to report to the front of the start line.

  • I lost my [wallet, keys, phone, ID]! Where do I go to see if someone picked it up?

Lost and found will located inside the Expo at the Information Booth near the entrance to the Expo.

  • I found someone's [wallet, keys, phone, ID]! What should I do instead of taking it?

Great question! Just bring it over to our lost and found referenced in the question above!

Everything Else

  • Connect Race is a non-profit, so I can count my registration fee as a tax deduction, right?

Not exactly. While we are a non-profit 501-c3, your entry fee covers the expense of the event and you receive a lot in exchange including a safe and quality event, certified course, timing, scoring, post-race food, and entertainment. Typically, only donations above the registration fee that are made directly to the charity are eligible for tax deductions. However, you should confer with your tax professional.
